Do you want more meaningful connections? Make them!
I know I do, and social media is entirely unhelpful in that respect. It's
basically the worst. I mean, it's good for becoming a meme lord, or arguing
with Nazis, but most of my social media has turned into this weird and useless
echo chamber.
So I've decided to do something about it.
A while ago I came across this thing called TinyLetter. It's run by Mailchimp,
so it's not entirely just something done out of the goodness of their hearts,
but it is free, which is kind of cool! And if you don't feel like setting up
your own mailserver and doing all the kinds of things that you'll need to do to
send emails to more than a couple of people, this is a good compromise.
TinyLetter is super easy to sign up for! Pass the captcha, add your name and
email, click a link, fill out a couple of other things and you're in. Now all
you need to do is send emails.
Basically, where you normally would write a tweet or post to social media, all
you have to do is put that content in an email instead, then click send!
It's possible that you'll have to get used to writing emails and sending them
before they're some huge massive undertaking, but guess what? That's OK!
Emails shouldn't actually take a lot of time or effort to write, and it's OK if
you send them out before they're a big thing. Really, it's OK I promise!
Anyway, I've set mine up right here, if you'd like to subscribe:
https://tinyletter.com/waynewerner I'll probably be sending emails out roughly
once a week, maybe more, maybe less.
I'm really just making 2019 my year of taking my digital life back. I don't
want to live in a world where my worth is only judged in terms of my ad
revenue. I want to make real, meaningful connections with people. So that's
what I'm working on.
How about you?
